Liverpool have lodged a £24.7million bid for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as Jurgen Klopp looks to bolster his midfield options, reports in Italy claim.

The Reds are in the market to add strength and depth to their squad as they prepare for a return to the Champions League, while also trying to assemble a side who can challenge for the Premier League title.

And Milinkovic-Savic has emerged as a target, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The Serbian central midfielder enjoyed a fine season for the Serie A side, scoring seven goals and providing seven assists in 39 appearances.

However, Lazio are keen to hang onto him and turned down the opening offer from the Reds, placing a £61.8million price tag on his head.

Boss Simone Inzaghi is desperate to build a side around the 22-year-old and club president Claudio Lotito has told Liverpool to look elsewhere.

Lazio face a battle to keep several of their top stars at the Stadio Olimpico, with Stefan de Vrij and Keita Balde among those linked with an exit.
