Liverpool could be prepared to end their interest in Mohamed Salah as they are unwilling to match Roma's asking price.

The Reds attempted to land the Egypt winger from Basel in 2014 but lost out to Chelsea.

Salah failed to force his way into the Chelsea side and joined Roma on a permanent deal last summer for a reported 15million euros fee after a successful season on loan with the Giallorossi.

The 24-year-old has impressed in Serie A and Liverpool are keen but the latest reports say they are not prepared to match Roma's 40million euros valuation, and could be prepared to end their pursuit.

Liverpool are now believed to be weighing up alternative targets, with Gelson Martins of Sporting Lisbon suggested as an option.

Keita Balde Diao was also understood to be on Liverpool's list of alternatives although they may be set to miss out as AC Milan are reported to be on the verge of signing the forward from Lazio.
