Liverpool are set to lock horns with European heavyweights in this summer’s Audi Cup at the Allianz Arena.

The tournament in Munich will form part of the Reds’ pre-season preparations following their tour of Asia.

Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan are expected to complete the four-team line up for the prestigious biennial event.

The semi-finals are scheduled to take place on August 1 with the winners meeting in a final and the losers in a third and fourth place play-off on August 2.

For Jurgen Klopp, it means a return to a stadium where he enjoyed plenty of memorable battles during his reign as Borussia Dortmund boss.

When the Audi Cup was last held in 2015, Bayern beat Real Madrid in the final with Tottenham winning the third place play-off against AC Milan.

AC Milan’s involvement in August to subject to any commitments in the qualifying rounds of the Europa League. They currently sit sixth in Serie A.

Klopp intends to take his Liverpool squad to a training camp in Germany after they return from the Premier League’s Asia Trophy in Hong Kong in July.
