Arsenal and Liverpool target Leon Goretzka faces an uncertain future at Schalke, with no major talks between the club and player taking place.

The midfielder returned to the team for his side’s 4-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen on Friday after a recent head injury.

Goretzka remains under contract with Schalke until 2018, though doubts over his future have emerged following rumours linking him with a move away from the club.

The club’s chief executive Christian Heidel is currently aiming to tie the promising 22-year-old down to a new deal, though formal talks have not yet been held.

“I think he has made his position relatively clear, but I cannot say any more, so far we have not held any intensive talks,” Goretzka told Bild, when talking about his future.

Liverpool and Arsenal have been strongly linked with summer bids for Goretzka, though reports have also claimed there is interest from Italy.
