Liverpool’s hopes of signing Bayer Leverkusen winger Julian Brandt may not be dead as his father denied a deal had been agreed with Bayern Munich.

Reports in Germany on the weekend had suggested that the 20-year-old was the subject of a 12.5m euro deal to make the move to the Allianz Arena at the end of next season.

A clause in Brandt’s contract allows him to leave for that amount in the summer of 2018.

Brandt’s father however, who acts as his agent, insists no deal with Bayern has ever been agreed.

“It is fake news that Julian has agreed terms with Bayern,” Jurgen Brandt told Kicker.

“Julian has never been in the situation where he had to - or wanted to - make a decision on his future.”

Nonetheless it appears clear that Bayern have a significant interest in the player which will make it hard for Jurgen Klopp to prise him out of Germany in the summer.

Brandt’s father told Sky Deutschland : “There isn’t any trend nor any agreement. Julian will speak to Leverkusen about the season and his future in the summer.

“There have been enquiries from Bayern as well as others - but only to me. I collect these but there’s nothing concrete yet.

“Julian hasn’t made any decision as to his future yet. He hasn’t spoken with any of those responsible at Bayern such as (Karl-Heinz) Rummenigge, (Uli) Hoeness or (Michael) Reschke, nor has he spoken to (Carlo) Ancelotti.”

Bayern technical director Reschke, who took Brandt from Wolfsburg to Leverkusen in 2014 for £250,000, was subsequently aware of the clause in the player’s contract.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side are in line for a possible treble this season, chasing Bundesliga, German Cup (a semi-final with Borussia Dortmund later this month) and the Champions League, where they face a mouth-watering quarter final with holders Real Madrid.
