The summer pursuit of Michael Keane is set to intensify after the centre back produced an impressive performance on his England debut against Germany, with Liverpool hardening their interest in recent weeks.

Everton have a long-standing admiration for Keane but Sportsmail understands their Merseyside neighbours have been increasing attentions and could launch a rival bid with Jurgen Klopp examining defensive options.

Burnley are resigned to losing the 24-year-old at the end of the season as his contract moves into the final year but are determined to hold out for the highest fee, which is expected to push the price to more than £20million.
