Manchester City scouts will be in Germany again on Sunday afternoon to further check out Borussia Monchengladbach’s Mahmoud Dahoud.

The 21-year-old was watched in midweek as he scored during Gladbach's Europa League away goals defeat to Bundesliga rivals Schalke.

City boss Pep Guardiola is aware of the Syrian-born youngster's burgeoning reputation, having seen first hand the all-action midfielder's rise at Borussia Park last season while still in charge of Bayern Munich.

And with the Spaniard set to overhaul his ageing City squad this summer, the Germany U21 international - who already boasts two years of Champions League experience - is rising up his hitlist.

Dahoud has come through a difficult start to the campaign - he was dropped by ex-boss Andre Schubert over contract issues - to star once more for Gladbach under new boss Dieter Hecking.

Yet with his contract set to expire in 2018, Gladbach may be forced into selling this summer.

Jurgen Klopp wanted to take him to Liverpool last summer, but saw a £20million-plus move rejected by the German side, who were already committed to selling Granit Xhaka to Arsenal.

Now, suitors could grab the youngster for half that amount, although Gladbach chief Max Eberl wants the 21-year-old to ink a new deal with the club.

However, with Bayern unwilling to deal with any requests for Guardiola's top target, Joshua Kimmich, the Spaniard has switched his attention.

That puts City on collision course with both Liverpool - who they meet at the Etihad on Sunday - and Borussia Dortmund, who are keen on an £8.5million deal.
