Trent Alexander-Arnold's innate knowledge of his teammates was the secret to his sublime assist for Mohamed Salah on Saturday.

With Liverpool’s lead over AFC Bournemouth still a slender one midway through the second half, the right-back served up a stunning pass over the visiting defence from the touchline for the Egyptian to nod in his 40th goal of the season.

Salah’s header – looped over Asmir Begovic on an angle – was exquisite but the ball from Alexander-Arnold was its equal in quality.

The No.66 modestly diverted the credit for his part in the strike but in doing so shed light on how the Reds’ attackers make life easier for those trying to feed them.

“It’s a big part of our game, our front three running in behind,” Alexander-Arnold told BT Sport after a 3-0 win in which Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino also scored.

“One of our main threats is playing in behind for them; we know they’re going to run so if we put the ball in dangerous positions they’ll get on the end of it. That’s what I did.”

The 19-year-old is perhaps in the richest vein of form of his fledgling Liverpool career after following up formidable performances in the two Champions League matches against Manchester City with another assured showing at the weekend.

But when asked about his development, once again he chose to highlight the contributions of others.

“It is thanks to people like Hendo and the senior players in the squad who have took me under their wing and made it easier – and obviously the manager as well,” added Alexander-Arnold.
