Reds thank fans after record foodbank donation
Liverpool FC's community programme, Red Neighbours, would like to thank fans who made a generous donation to the foodbank before the Huddersfield Town fixture at Anfield on Saturday.
A record 728.6kg of food was collected by volunteers and LFC staff ahead of the game.
The donation, which is the biggest foodbank collection to date, is the equivalent of 64 three-day food parcels, providing more than 2,000 meals to help feed approximately 250 people in crisis in the L4, L5 and L6 areas.
The food, which consisted of fan and LFC staff donations, has been handed over to the North Liverpool Foodbank and will be distributed to local people in need of emergency assistance.
As part of its dedication to tackle food poverty, the Red Neighbours programme supports the Fans Supporting Foodbanks initiative and hosts foodbank collections at all home games.
Kenny Dalglish helped to kick off the food donations by making a contribution to the North Liverpool Foodbank ahead of the Huddersfield game on Friday morning.
He joined a number of LFC employees who assisted volunteers at the North Liverpool Foodbank to help prepare food parcels for local residents in need.
During the month of October, the Red Neighbours team focused its activity on food poverty and education to help tackle food inequality in and around Anfield. A variety of activities and events have been taking place in the local community, including breakfast and lunch clubs, and healthy eating sessions.
