Members of the elderly community in Anfield started their week with a smile as they attended Liverpool FC's 'Happy Mondays' event at Anfield stadium.

The Monday Club, which LFC’s community department has been running for more than six years, sees care home residents and elderly locals come together once a month to enjoy socialising and activities with like-minded people.

Organised by the club’s Red Neighbours programme, the fun-filled afternoon included a game of bingo, a prize raffle and a performance from singer Kelvin Nicholas.

Supporting the elderly community is one of the four key focus areas of the Red Neighbours programme, alongside food poverty and education, encouraging a physically active community, and creating memorable experiences for young people.

Resident Barbara Paslo, who regularly attends the elderly community events, said: “I always enjoy the Monday Club get-togethers.

“Everyone is so friendly and we have such a lovely time socialising, relaxing and having a good old chat. It’s great to sit down and play bingo together as well, although it’s been a long time since I’ve won!

“It’s really lovely to be able to come to these events, catch up with old friends and even make new ones.

“It really gives us all something to look forward to.”
