Robbie Fowler walked away from a chance meeting with Diego Maradona delighted that the Argentina legend knew a little about his own exploits in the game.

The Liverpool great crossed paths with the man considered by many as the best player of all time at the Wembley clash with Tottenham Hotspur last Sunday.

And although it was not the first time Fowler had met Maradona, this encounter was made all the more special by the latter revealing his knowledge of the former’s career.

“To be honest, it’s not the first time I have met him,” he told Liverpoolfc.com.

“I actually played in a charity game a while ago and I played in it because he was there and it was a chance to meet him.

“You never really know if you will get that chance again.

“When he came up to me on Sunday I wasn’t sure he knew who I was but he actually said he did, and that’s the pleasing thing about it.

“He was one of the greatest players ever and for him to know who I am, it’s not a bad little achievement that.”
