This year's annual Liverpool supporters' friendship visit to Germany has been postponed until 2017.

This special friendship, which is unique in world football, started in 1991 when a delegation of Borussia Moenchengladbach supporters flew to Liverpool to present a cheque for 21,000 Deutsch Marks (approximately £7,000) to the families of the Hillsborough disaster - an amazing gesture that has never been forgotten on Merseyside.

Explaining the reasons why this year's visit has had to be cancelled, chief organiser Graham Agg said: "It is with deep regret that I have to announce that this year's 2016 annual Friendship visit to Moenchengladbach, Germany has had to be cancelled.

"Since the inaugural friendship visit to Gladbach back in May 2007 I have organised all friendship visit's to Moenchengladbach to coincide with Liverpool playing away and Borussia playing at home. This is a stipulation I have adhered to since the very first visit to Gladbach to prevent any LFC supporters having to miss a home game and not being able to support the Reds.

"Unfortunately when the friendship visit usually takes place, this time Liverpool and Borussia Moenchengladbach are both playing at home, so therefore this year's visit has had to be cancelled.

"I can however confirm, that the 2017 and 10th annual Friendship visit to Moenchengladbach will once again be returning for the 2016-17 season."
