Sheyi Ojo and Harry Wilson felt Liverpool U23s deserved the victory they helped inspire from two goals down against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.

The pair were each on the scoresheet as Mike Garrity’s side recovered from a first-half deficit on Sunday, with Wilson dispatching a cool penalty shortly after the Reds conceded a second.

That conversion from 12 yards was pivotal in keeping the hosts in contention and by the time Ojo swept in a delightful curled equaliser at the Kop end, they were firmly in charge.

And, with eight minutes remaining, Kevin Stewart capped off an impressive comeback when he met Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross with a powerful header to win it.

“We were all saying to [Stewart] after the game that he doesn’t get many,” Wilson told Liverpoolfc.com. “But he took it well. It was a great ball in from Trent and he timed his run and got the contact on it.

“We’re especially delighted with the second half. The first half, we were disappointed to go two goals down. The goals came from our mistakes as well, which made it worse.

“But we did well to get back into the game. Trent was a threat all game and did well to get a penalty for the first goal. Sheyi scored a brilliant second.

“And then to nick it at the end through a Kev header was a great feeling.”

Ojo, who recovered from a knock that threatened to force his withdrawal moments before the interval, added: “It was obviously nice to score.

“That’s my job. Any forward’s job is to create chances – get past your man and get shots and crosses. I managed to do that. But the most important thing was to get the win, which we managed to do and I think we deserved it.

“The formation helped in the second half. It’s one to look forward to in the coming games. We’ll have another game next Sunday and hopefully another win.”
